Pursuing Unhappiness In The Bathroom

“…that among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happines…”

It would have been wiser to list “property” instead of “pursuit of happiness,” but the founders were commendably wise to declare “pursuit of…” rather than “happiness” in and of itself.

Today, men and women unhappy with being male or female are trying to find happiness in forcing others to treat them as if they were the opposite, complementary sex. This would include allowing them to use the bathrooms, shower rooms, etc., designed for the other sex. This is part of the movement for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) “rights.”

While I may scare up more rabbits than I can shoot here, I must try to expose all the poison that such a position holds.

First, if private property rights were upheld, the private business owner’s sign—“Men” or “Women”—would be law enough. The property owner could enforce his own rules for his own property.

Second, when the media, the government, or their allies talk of “rights,” you can almost always take that as meaning “privileges.” Decades ago, more Americans understood that a right does not involve forcing others to provide you goods, services, or opportunies—much less happiness, especially not at the expense exclusively of those others.

However, in 2016, many Americans think that they have a right to education, to a job, to health care, and so on. The bathroom brouhaha adds another to this long list of subsidized privileges, and the “transgender bathroom” position contains various falsehoods:

  • You can choose whether you are male or female
  • A bathroom (or shower room, locker room, and so on) at someone else’s expense and maintenance, on someone else’s property, is a right
  • If you are unhappy with your body, you have the right to make others treat you as whatever you believe you are (This is like saying anorexics should be granted weight-loss surgery or treatments because the anorexic identifies as overweight.)

The bathroom brouhaha is not a distraction—as various persons, some naive, and some corrupt, have claimed. The attack on the private property owner’s jurisdiction over his property, and the idea that a bathroom is a right, are serious developments in the war on liberty and private property.

Most of all, you cannot choose whether you are male and female. The male and female differ physically, both internally and externally. External signs such as genitalia can be mutilated (how ironic that circumcision is thought to be “abuse,” but not complete removal), but other physical differences will always remain.

  • Women’s fertility decreases after age 35, ending with menopause, but men’s fertility can endure into their seventies
  • Men’s skin has more collegen and sebum, making it thicker and oiler than women’s skin
  • Men’s lung capacity is greater than women’s lung capacity

  • Women are deficient in x-ADH, which makes them more susceptible to alcohol

These aren’t by any means the total of the physical differences. But the most important differences are spiritual.

For example, the words “I respect you” mean more to a man; for a woman, the words “I love you” mean more. Scripture says, “So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies,” (Eph. 5:28a) while saying, “[A]nd the wife see that she reverence [or respect] her husband.” (Eph. 5:33b)

The male sex holds authority over the female; we think of how God assigned Adam the authority of naming the animals, and created Eve after the animals had been named. But, with authority comes responsibility. For example, David did not rape Bathsheba; but though they committed adultery together, he was more responsible than she was, because he was the initiator, and he was stronger, and he had the authority.

True happiness and joy comes from living in accord and acceptance with God’s design: in the basic physical sense of accepting how He designed our body; in the deep spiritual sense, accepting how God designed our spiritual nature.

Most of all, God designed happiness to come when we put Him first and others second and our own self last. The lost are self-serving, and cannot find contentment. When we obey, and please, God we are best able to serve and meet the needs of others, and best able to find happiness. “When a man’s ways please the Lord, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

If one makes one’s own whims the highest priority, he thereby makes his self a deity, and will find only emptiness. This emptiness remains, even if every one else bows and grovels to those whims.

The so-called “transgender” persons are ultimately unhappy with God. Deciding in their mind that they are the other sex will not mitigate their unhappiness and dissatisfaction. “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.” Ecclesiastes 5:10

Even if every one who crosses their path affirms their decision, they will not be at peace. Their body has not affirmed their decision, and it never can, given the ineradicable internal attributes. Every waking moment of their lives they are resisting their own body, and resisting God. “But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.” Isaiah 57:20

Being around people who are contented with God’s design for the trees and the forest makes them most unhappy of all. A tender-hearted, feminine Christian woman grates on a Chaz Bono.

Those who rebel and defy God’s design loathe the very existence of those who accept and fulfill it. “[H]e that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.” Proverbs 29:27b

The pimp and the prostitute cannot stand the pure and chaste; the pure remind them, without a word, that it is possible to choose a better way. Choice carries responsibility, and the rebellious and defiant don’t want to be accountable. Hence, the sinners are always seeking the businesses, churches, and entities owned by saints, and demanding them to accommodate, participate, and subsidize their sin.

Christians are told that if they were more like Christ, the world would like them more. Nonsense. Christians should know the world never liked their Lord, or His word—“If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” John 15:18-19

“It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?” Jesus, Matthew 10:25

True joy, true happiness, comes through Christ: through personally trusting, knowing, and walking with God, the Holy Trinity—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Christians must understand the world envies and resents the joy and the happiness that only Christians can pursue and achieve.

America is descending into extreme spiritual darkness. No easy, quick route to regeneration and restoration exists; an alcoholic of many years may quit drinking, but still live with the consequences of his sins for a long time.

We Christians must pray and fast, for our neighbors, for our country, for our families; and we must witness to sinners, and reprove the unfruitful works of darkness. We would hope that the hearts of the unhappy rebels will repent, and that they pursue real happiness. But it is possible, also, that they may never repent, and that we may lose every thing on earth; that as Judah went in Jeremiah’s time, our country may go as well.

Come what may, however, we take refuge in this assurance: “But now they [and we] desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He hath prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:16

We have a better country and kingdom in our future; and paradoxically, the more we esteem the eternal, the better shall we steward the temporal.
